Things to Consider While Buying a Camping Caravan :
Just bought our 1st caravan 😁 Ace Tycoon 1984 (so we were told) any advice on the following would be good please:
1) Looking to buy awning but how do I know what size to get?
2) Caravan steps needed
3) Also, need to re-seal it whats the best (but not too expensive) sealant to use?
4) Need to remove old sealant whats best to remove this as it's been painted on and kinda gone over the bodywork.
5) Also, can you wallpaper or paint walls inside, units etc.
6) Looking to buy a fridge as this one is broke.
Thank you
Here are some suggestions for you to consider :
Lucy Underhill To find what size awning you need, Aldi are selling caravan steps atm, only ever use Silkaflex to seal a caravan which can be bought from any caravan shop.
April PinkApril Thanks Lucy
Lucy Underhill No problem 😊
Lucy Underhill Just saw you've edited it now lol. Use a blade carefully to remove old sealant, I used a wallpaper scraper to get old sealant off the awning rails. Also, I wallpapered our first caravan and then painted it, hindsight now I should have used a kitchen or bathroom paint. Depending on where your fridge currently sits you could put a normal household under counter fridge in there. This is only if yours is sitting in front of a wheel arch.

April PinkApril That's the wheel?
Lucy Underhill April Pink think you'll find its shaped to fit over the wheel arch. You'd have to take it out and measure the space
Caroline May A household fridge should be too deep as you need space behind for circulation. I'd check on that for safety
April PinkApril Yes i think your right we do have a beer fridge that came with it so will use that for next weeks holiday then sort it out when we back it was just cheaper to buy this than to rent self-catering and the best thing is we have this for other trips even if it only lasts us a year we saved money 😁
Walter Geddes Use it as it is enjoyed. Then when u decide to upgrade your budget best advice I was ever given
Dave Heath I have an 875cm awning for sale
Michelle Shiers I have this size awning for sale
April PinkApril I don't even know what size awning I would need, anyone knows how you find out or measure up, please
Wendy Vincent you get a piece of string going from the ground thread it through the rail where the awning goes on to the ground another side then see how many cms that's size u want

Caroline May April Pink it's easier to measure with 2 people. One holding the string to ground letting string out as the 2nd person is threading it (if u put the screw on end of a piece of wood and the string on the screw, then put the screw in the awning rail and slide it through the rail keeping it taught it keeps the string in the groove)
April PinkApril Caroline May thanks for the tips 😁
Phil Cox Use a ball of string and thread from the floor at one end through awning rail to the floor at other end and measure the string in meters then convert to centimeters...hey presto you awning size will be revealed!
Julie Hunter Where about are you I have a spare step.
April PinkApril Kent
Julie Hunter Aw tad far. I’m up near Liverpool.
April PinkApril Julie Hunter Mmm we going Blackpool on our travels Aldi apparently selling them thank you anyway x
April PinkApril You know the reason I bought it was because it was cheaper to pay for this caravan than it was for a 1-week self-catering holiday in the half term next week and we have the benefit of continuous use too 😁
Claire Linney Check your chimney seal ours leaked it's easy to replace and perishes also we had leaked from front window gutter that needed resealing
April PinkApril The previous people sealed it but like this, they didn't take off the metal strip clean then sealant the screw and the strip back on instead they just painted over top grrrrrrr need to remove old stuff then do properly
Claire Linney April Pink oooo hard work for you then, the chimney seal is a plastic rubber ring not very much I don't think
Robert Key I've got a 260 air awning for sale if you're interested £200 ono
Andy 'Kenty' Durrans We have an awning for sale as well. So when you know size message me on messenger or reply to this and can see if we can help

Jill Hutcheson Aldi had metal caravan steps recently. 7.99 for single 15.99 I think for double. They were more but reduced in price.
Pete Lewis Anti Mould white sealant and an inflatable awning so much easier. Kampa good
April PinkApril a Can you buy that from an everyday hardware shop ie BnQ or Bunnings?
